AI in SAP: from Joule to use cases with real returns

Artificial Intelligence is now part of SAP solutions. Here is how to identify the use cases that bring measurable value to your company.

1 min read

Artificial Intelligence has gone from promise to part of everyday work in SAP solutions. The most visible example is Joule, SAP’s generative AI assistant, which lets users look up information, navigate applications and carry out tasks in natural language. SAP is also introducing AI agents capable of completing multi-step processes.

Beyond the demo

The challenge is not the technology but choosing where to apply it. Some useful questions:

  • Which repetitive tasks take up most of our teams’ time?
  • Where do most manual errors or delays occur?
  • Which decisions would improve with faster or more complete information?

Common use cases in SAP environments

  1. Finance: reconciliations, invoice classification, explaining budget variances.
  2. Procurement and logistics: supplier analysis, order proposals, anomaly detection.
  3. Customer service: case summaries, suggested replies and integration with telephony (CTI).
  4. Analytics: natural-language queries on business data and report generation.

What it takes to work

  • Quality data. AI amplifies what it finds: if master data is poor, the results will be too.
  • Security and governance. You need to define which information the AI can use and with which permissions.
  • Measurement. Each use case should have a clear indicator (time saved, errors avoided, sales) to assess its return.

Start small

We recommend an approach based on focused pilots: one process, one team and one indicator. If the pilot proves its value, it is scaled up. This avoids investing in spectacular solutions that then go unused.

At Responsive we combine experience in SAP processes with the practical application of AI, both with SAP’s own capabilities and with tailored solutions.
